All websites are governed by specific rules. Xml specification is a set of rules for encoding the documents in a machine readable form. Simplicity, generality and usability are its goals and as of today there are more than hundreds of xml languages. The various xml specifications are:
Xml name spaces
To provide an uniquely named elements and attributes in an xml document, xml name spaces are used and it is usually a URI reference.
Xml schema
It is one of the several xml schema languages and it express a set of rules to which an xml document must conform and also, it determines the document validity.
Xpath
Xpath is a query language for selecting the nodes from an xml document and it computes values from the content of an xml document. Currently there are two versions in use and they are xpath1.0 and xpath2.0.
Xquery
It is designed for the query collections of xml data and it is a functional programming language and provides the needed interaction between the web world and database world. It is used to extract documents and data form the real and virtual documents on the World Wide Web.
Xml information set
It describes the abstract data model of an xml document and it is well formed and satisfies the namespace constraints. It has information set in which it contains eleven different types of information items.
XInclude
It is a mechanism that is used to merge xml documents and incorporates the content from xml files and non-xml text files.
Xml pointer
It is used to address the components of xml based internet media and it is divided as four specifications and it address the structural aspects of xml, including text and other objects.
